THE WILD, WILD WEST

PROGRAM LENGTH: One Hour
AUDIENCE AGE: Grades 1 – 8 (Grown-ups like it, too!)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

C’mon and hitch up your wagon, or saddle your pony,
Come see the real Old West, nothin’ phony.
You’ll meet cowboys, outlaws, preachers and pioneers,
And civilizations that came before America was here.
There were railroad men, miners, gamblers, thieves,
Courageous women and great Native Chiefs,
Bad men and heroes who found fortune and fame,
They lived in the West that was wild and untamed.
I’ll sing you songs of their heartbreak and glory,
Come along with me and I’ll tell you their story.

THE WILD, WILD WEST, is a program that gives audiences an insight into what the real Old West was like. It covers the time in American History from the Lewis and Clark Expeditions, to the end of the era of the great cattle ranches and cowboys who worked them. It is an honest look at a period in history that has been sometimes glamorized and sugar coated by television and movies of the past. It also gives voice to groups of people who have been overlooked, and often stereotyped. This rough and tumble part of our past is presented with songs from that era and true stories about the people who lived it.
